Stalling growth and high unemployment are not the only problems facing Bosnia & Herzegovina. To ensure its long-term sustainability, the country’s social protection system needs a major overhaul.
The “Introduction to Social Protection in the Netherlands” study tour was part of a project run with the Ministries of Social Affairs in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As part of this project, UNU-MERIT and its School of Governance provide technical assistance to improve the targeting of non-contributory civilian cash benefits. In turn, the goal is to reach and help more of Bosnia’s most vulnerable people.
From 14-17 April 2014, a 16-person delegation came to Maastricht to study how social protection policies are organized and implemented in the Netherlands and how beneficiaries are (re)integrated into the labour market.
The playlist above features three testimonials with high-level participants: an assistant minister, an institutional director, and a governmental adviser. These were recorded in original language with English interpretation.
